“Diversity in Law” Panel hosted by Sedgwick LLP

Sedgwick LLP, in conjunction with Fordham APALSA, BLSA and LALSA, will hold a panel presentation on March 28, 2014 at 6 p.m. (may be moved up to 5:30 pm) that will address different career paths from a minority attorney’s perspective. The event will take place at the offices of Sedgwick LLP at Two Brookfield Place (at 225 Liberty Street).

Following the presentation, wine and cheese will be offered to afford the students with an opportunity to practice and further develop their networking skills. The panelists will be the following Fordham Law graduates: Neil Dennis (started at Anderson Kill; worked as a clerk for Judge Arthur Gonzalez, United States Bankruptcy Court Judge for the Southern District of New York; worked at Howrey LLP; and is now Director, Career Services & Diversity at Georgetown University Law Center); Will Malpica (started at Mayer Brown and is now at RBS Global Banking & Markets); Anna Mercado (started as a Queens DA and is now at Philips Lytle); and David Suh (started at Cleary Gottlieb and is now at Barclays). The panel presentation will be moderated by a Sedgwick attorney.

Topics for discussion:
– getting included in important cases and social events with firm/company leadership when the leadership tends to not be as diverse as us
– personal stories about struggles, stereotyping, and how these were overcome from our panelists
– diversity inclusion initiatives that panelists have encountered, which ones are most successful
